Brave-Mode Candy

Chugging along with the 40k minis, got a squad of shooty cultists painted and half a squad of the melee cultists (gotta get some pics)

During painting them I got this SDE Brave-Mode Candy painted up.

This is the second chibi I've ever painted (the first was a custom sculpt and it was fairly basic being mostly black) I think the eyes turned out well, which is probably the most important part of a chibi miniature. I'll probably sprinkle in a chibi here and there as I work through the rest of my 40k models. When I get enough painted I can play a game of AoF: Skirmish with them. Might even be able to get all of them painted before the next kickstarter bundle arrives.

New GD: Firefight Kill Team

Got some bits in the mail today and got right to putting them together.
Have to do some minor greenstuff fill in to make the armor on the heads not look like skulls and add some straps on the sides between the chest plate and back armors but they should look pretty good once they're all painted up.

I'll be fielding them as Tao coalition grunt captain, grunt with missile turret and a spotter with rail rifle. If the missile turret turns out to be a flop then I'll swap it out for 2 gun drones to make a 150pt team. We'll see how they perform.

Paint wise I might do grey skin, bluish teal scales and orange armor so I could field some at-43 cog walkers as battle suits with them, not sure though.

Cultist Gang Wars on the Streets of the Underworld

Decided to take a break from painting and give a go at the Grimdark Future: Firefight rules.
Havoc Brothers vs. Soul Snatchers 150pts

The gangs:

Havoc Brothers: 145pts
1. Jack Preacher
2. The Smash Brothers
3. Burna Boys, Pistols
4. The Clonies
5. Dakka Boys
Soul Snatchers: 150pts
6. Thing One
7. Thing Two
8. Boom Boys Squad 1
9. Boom Boys Squad 2

 The Table:
Mission: Seize Ground
Soul Snatchers win the initiative with a roll of 2 over 1 but they all posses the scout ability so the havoc brothers deploy and the soul snatcher set up their ambush.

Round 1:
Boom boys 2 move up and fire at the clonies but the bullets whiz by them. The clonies advance and fire at Thing one, who is behind partial cover, and the only thing they manage to hit is the building. Thing one rushes at the clonies aiming to rip their flesh from their bones, Thing one manages to land one attack and its rending dealing one automatic wound to the group. One clonie remains, he throws a swing at the monster as it rips apart his brethren but the punch doesn't seem to phase it.

The smash brothers rush over to exact smashing revenge on thing one. After a flurry of strikes they manage to land 2 brutal hits on the monster knocking it out cold. They take a step back to admire their smashing skills. Jack Preacher takes aim at Thing One and finishes it off from atop the concrete tower.
Meanwhile a block over, Boom Boys 1 take aim at the Burna boys, the grenade blast is fatal and wipes out two of the brothers. Thing 2 advances forward behind some walls. The dakka boys move closer to one of the objectives and fire dakka upon the advancing soul snatcher but have terrible aim. The remaining Burna boy flees behind some cover to finish round 1.
 Round 2:

Boom boys squad 2 moves and fire upon the cultist but only manage to take out one of them. The Smash Brothers charge forward and flail their weapons into the Boom boys, killing one of the minions. Thing Two rushes down the street to charge the last member of the clonies, stunning him with the attack. Jack Preacher moves across the catwalk positioning himself directly above thing two and aims his shotgun but misses his mark.
Boom boys 1 take aim at the Dakka boys taking out two of them. The lone Dakka boy fires back but only manages to hit the bridge. The last Burna boy moves forward and douses the bridge with flames. The bridge is consumed by flames and two of the Boom boys burn to a crisp. End of round 2.
Round 3:
Both side have taken heavy casualties so they all have to take morale checks. For this game there is no retreat so units that fail tests become stunned and units that were already stunned and fail die. Both Boom boy squads fail their morale checks so they are stunned and the lone soul snatcher passes. The remaining clonie bleeds out on the street. The smash brothers also pass out from exhaustion. Jack preacher passes out but manages to narrowly avoid falling from the catwalk. Dakka and Burna boys both pass their moral checks. Onward to the bloodbath.
Thing two rushes onto the smash brothers and finishes them off easily. Burna boy runs up to the bridge stairway. Boom boys 2 recover. Jack recovers, while the remaining member of Boom boys 1 recovers. Just as he does Dakka boy fires his machine gun but misses horribly and so ends a rather uneventful round.
Round 4:
Boom boys squad 2 start the round off strong, firing their weapons at Jack Preacher. The grenade explodes in his face stunning him where he stands. Burna boy runs up the stairs and releases a surge of hellfire onto Burna boy 1, the intense heat knocks him out. The remaining cultist stand their ground but at the end of a grueling battle the territory remains unclaimed by either side. Their turf war will continue with no end in sight...
Well thats it for now. Hope to get some more games in soon. This match was pretty fun and the teams seemed well matched. Looking forward to playing some battle brothers and orc maruaders battles pretty soon and I hope the campaign rules come out soonish it'll really take this game to the next level.

Game Table: Construction Begins

So I had this dismantled tv cabinet in my garage and I figured I could make a halfway decent table with it so after some google image searches I found this picture:

I liked the idea of having shelves underneath the table to store terrain and stuff so all that wouldn't clutter up my normal shelves.

Still need to cut the shelves so I can finish the base. I'll probably screw some planks on the inside section to stop things from being pushed too far and falling off the shelves into the center. While I was at Home Depot getting the 4' squares for the top and base I found these printed foam floor tiles that looked pretty good for an alien desert planet kind of texture.
The pack was only $18 and it makes a 4' square, I wonder why any of the companies that make wargame mats don't make foam tiles like this? Way better than paying $50+ for a pvc/mousepad mat. Portable, affordable, and if you buy another pack you could make a 4'x6' or 4'x8' in seconds, just connect the tiles.

Update: Jan 27, 2017
Almost, done this is how it looks right now. I was going to but a base on the bottom but after a couple days  of having just 1 4'x'4 section on top it began to warp at the corners so now I'm going to double it up or use the 1" strips at the bottom left of the pic to build diagonal supports underneath the corners, screwed into the legs.

Here's a bonus pic of my board game/ miniatures collection.

Giant Mushrooms

I almost have my new gaming table built, I'll be getting pics of it as I start building it and posting some pics. I got the legs cut, most of the stuff I need (felt, foam, etc.) Just have to cut the shelves and bottom base board so I can start putting it together. Hoping I get the table done by the end of the week so I can get back to gaming and making some more battle reports.

Meanwhile, as I was running around yesterday for felt I found this nice little set of mushrooms at Hobby Lobby for $9.99. They are going to make nice terrain pieces for some fantasy/skirmish games. They also have a nice castle that would probably work for the chibi miniatures.

Here's a picture of the mushrooms with some Confrontation, Ninja All-Stars and 40k Dark Eldar Wych miniatures for scale. The small mushrooms almost fill a 1" square perfectly and the large one fits a 2" square nicely. I might base these on 1" squares and add some flock around them just to add a little stability but they are alright as is.

Plast Craft Star Motel

In the next couple of weeks I plan to start building a city table to play games on so I've been looking through the internet for building ideas and came across the Plast Craft Games buildings. I like the look of the buildings but since I couldn't find any pictures online of the buildings in use with any miniatures other than Infinity models I went to my local shop and found one. Here's some pictures with some various game models so maybe it'll help someone else out there decide if they want to pick some up for their games. I'll be picking up some more buildings in the near future.

Here's some Dust, Heroclix, Warhammer 40k and some At-43 models. The Star Motel is my least favorite design of the buildings Plast Craft make and it has the largest door on it compared to the other buildings available.
This is the back, which is probably the most important part of these buildings as they all feature platforms and ladders on each building. The Dust and At-43 models are on 30mm bases and they have plenty of room on the top platform and even the Heroclix base can be placed behind the railing on the top level.
Here is the Star Motel next to a Deadzone Battlezones terrain building. The doors are about the same size and the height of the first level match up, they are both 3" from the floor to the top of the first level.
It almost fits into a Dust Tactics square, there's just a little bit over the line but it works.

I can't wait to get some more and use them in games of One Page 40k

You can get your Plast Craft buildings at a nice discount from Wayland Games
Create an account and I'll get points to buy new things to take pictures of and review
